Drs Riedel and D’Adamo briefly discuss the evolution of sarcoma treatment and the integration of novel therapeutic approaches, including targeted therapies and novel chemotherapeutic regimens, into the management of this diverse group of malignancies.

• Describe historical treatment modalities for sarcoma, with a focus on the impact of these treatments on survival
• Explain the importance of the unique biology of sarcomas, including abnormal cytogenetics and overexpression of signal transduction pathways, in determining potential therapeutic targets
• Discuss targeted therapies currently under investigation in sarcoma and evaluate the efficacy of these agents based on data from recent clinical trials
