LEARNING OBJECTIVES | Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the epidemiology and risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and discuss strategies for screening and surveillance
- Examine the current understanding of HCC tumor biology with regard to gene profiling, molecular targets, biomarkers, and risk-assessment strategies
- Describe current standards of care and recent advances in the treatment of advanced unresectable HCC, including the role of targeted therapies, patient selection, and appropriate response-monitoring strategies
- Discuss the efficacy and safety of treatment options for patients with metastatic HCC beyond first-line therapy, including chemotherapy and novel targeted agents
- Identify the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of patients with HCC
- Evaluate the latest treatment approaches for early-stage and intermediate-stage HCC, including diagnostic procedures, radiation and embolization techniques, and surgical strategies.
